Since coming here to Derbyshire in 2004 I have joined a few acting schools/groups.
I joined “STAR” in Derby and “Burton Youth Theatre” immediately.
Soon after that I was one of 10 actors accepted into the “The Television Workshop” in Nottingham. Through them I got to be a background artist in the film “This is England” by Shane Meadows, who won a BAFTA as best director for this film, and got to play a lead part in a short educational film with ‘Atmosphere’.
I now teach at STAR having been a student there for four years and am very grateful to Fiona Watson (Managing Director of STAR) for all the opportunities including getting me the audition to ‘The Television Workshop” and the chance to take part as one of the Lost Boys in the Derby Pantomime 2005/6, “Peter Pan”, with Gary Wilmot as Captain Hook..
During my time at ‘Burton Youth Theatre’ I was part of many of their shows including ‘Wind in the Willows’, ‘Kiss Me’ and ‘Bugsy Malone’ but in 2007 I got the lead roll as Tony Manero in “Saturday Night Fever” at ‘The Burton Brew House’ which was my first singing performance in a lead roll.
In 2008 I joined ‘Utopian Artists’ where I met Robert Scott (founder of the company) and performed my first straight play, “Truth of a Lie”, as the leading man; Alexander Cain. That performance was shortly followed by me cutting my hair (about time!) and playing The Argentinean in Burton Youth Theatre’s adaptation of “Moulin Rouge”!
I continued to work with ‘Utopian Artists’ and on the 27th of July 2008 had my first West End experience; a musical production by Robert Scott entitled “Moonlit Sky” at “Her Majesty’s Theatre” in London.
In September 2008 I started the National Diploma in Performing Arts at Burton College where we are constantly putting on a variety of different shows and plays including “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead” both of which I had the lead roles.
I also took an A level in English and Film Studies at the college.
In November 2008 I took TRINITY GUILDHALL Advanced Musical Theatre - Grade 8 and passed
with a Distinction of 95%.
Over the past year I have taken part in many variety shows and have been singing songs from musicals such as “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “Les Misérables”, “We Will Rock You”, “Jekyll and Hyde” and songs by artists like Elton John, Van Morrison, Journey and some I wrote myself.
I am still on my journey but if you’d like to know of any projects I am currently or about to be working on visit the ‘News’ section of the web site.
